There are many city lost in time. From Sahiwal. Move towards river Ravi, the road is called “Naki Madhari” road. Before reaching River ravi bank at Sahiwal side, around 2 kilometer back, you found silent mound of Bawanni. The city has no history.

Bawani Mound Sahiwal

While home town is at Sahiwal, I listen many time that people dug and find old pots, some times figures of  deities.

Finally I decided to visit that place. Mound is high like three story building.  Silent, no history. Broken pottery  everywhere.

Ash Layer aat Bawani Mound

If you dug small, by hand, ash is comes out, Seems that last layer of city burned after conquered.

Who conquered, who were inhabitant nobody knows.

Rain water made his way cut down mound at many locations, on close examination I  found multiple layers of city, more than one ash layer. These ash layers were the marks of ancient warfare of unknown time.  When I searched on google with bawanni or bhawanni,  I found at Tamil godess of Bahwanni or similar.  Some people have cast name bawaani. It means Bawanni have some meanings and roots in Vedic or Tamil.

One of my opinions is that old Sahiwal was at that place. Current Sahiwal city is not at the bank of any river. River Ravi is much far from the old part of Sahiwal city. And Current city’s history is not more than 150 years, it was small village of Sahi people.
